Named : named after a lost settlement in Dilsen-stokkem, Belgium. Thus the farm of ‘tVirveld was the farm where the horses of the coalmine stayed. There used to be a Russian camp where later 3,500 miners lived in wooden houses. But the residential core disappeared in 1970 with the arrival of the industrial area of Lanklaar. Also the ferry, formerly used daily by hundreds of miners, doesn’t sail anymore.
